Sony. Have Been Refused Refund On A Brand New Sony DVD Recorder Which Is Faulty. What Do I Do?

Retailer refused to refund my money on a brand new Sony DVD recorder, only to offer compensation.
I'd be without it for the week.
Besides, I do not want to have a new machine for repair.

If you start on his return within 28 days they have to offer a refund if not they have the right to only offer credit repair or improved products.

John Lewis have this extended to 90 days or six months depending on the product.
