What are the USB "extension ports" on the Toshiba HD-A2 HD-DVD player used for?

I flipped open the front panel on my Toshiba HD-DVD and found two mysterious USB ports "extension". The manual does not mention any use or the site of Toshiba. Are they for future updates or accessories?

I think the answer is "nothing yet, and probably never will." The HD-XA2 manual only says "The expansion ports may be used in future for additional control options.

Toshiba HD DVD Player (HD-A1)

From opening the box to total tear-down, here's a look inside Toshiba's brand new HD-DVD player.

I Was Wrong About HD-DVDs

The movie studios, which were split between the HD-DVD and Blu-ray camps, eventually sided with Blu-ray. Until high-definition TVs become more mainstream, DVDs and Blu-ray discs will continue to co-exist.

I owned another Toshiba that I bought from the retailer that sells things in bulk and it also had very loud speakers for a laptop but this laptop's speakers are both LOUD and FANTASTIC quality. These touch-sensitive buttons (located on the top right corner of the keyboard) are very responsive, but by default they produce a very annoying system beep every time one or the other is touched. One little annoying feature I could've lived without is the volume buttons' system beep. Before, sometimes after holding the + or - button for a few second, I guess because the annoying system beep itself was glitchy, They are hands down the best speakers on any laptop I have ever seen/owned....
